The First Ever Picture Of Black Hole Captured. The extremely awaited picture displays a dark hole surrounded by orange gases.
Black Holes are made up of huge amount of matter squeezed into a tiny space. Their massive gravitational field is so strong that nothing can escape from it, not even light. (Source: NASA)
The outer circle of the black hole is named as Event Horizon and the center point is referred as Singularity.
Previously in 90’s, many have debated on the existence of black hole but among today’s astronomers, the existence of black hole is universally accepted.
Every Detail about the discovery:
The black hole is 500 million trillion kms away and is approximately three million times the size of Earth. It is located in a distant galaxy called M87.
No single telescope is powerful enough to capture the image of black hole. A project led by Prof Sheperd Doeleman of the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre, to link a network of eight telescopes together which forms the ‘Event Horizon Telescope‘.
EHT, Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration presented the ground-breaking result. It uses global network of telescopes to capture images into the galaxy.
Earth’s size virtual telescope:
The idea of combining the telescopes around the globe results into a virtual telescope that is almost the same size as Earth.
The scientists combined eight powerful radio telescopes around the world situated at:
ALMA – Chile
SMA – Hawaii
SPT – South Pole (Antarctica)
SMT – Arizona
PV – Spain
LMT – Mexico
APEX – Chile
200 people around the globe working continuously for 10 days scanned the M87 galaxy. The data was captured two years ago by the Event Horizon Telescope, and it took so long to complete the image and analysis of data.
THE EINSTEIN’S THEORY OF RELATIVITY PROVES TO BE ACCURATE
The theory that Albert Einstein discovered in 1915 proved to be right in 2019. The astronomers have come up with a picture of the black hole for the very first time that surprises every single person across the globe.

The image is similar to what theoretical physicists or any other people have assumed. Many directors in hollywood have also used imagined picture of black hole which matches the real image. So, Einstein again proves to be right.

The image captured a ring of fire around the dark hole and the scientists are referring it like a monster. So, no one is able to answer the question, how the bright ring around the hole was created.
A vision of Prof Heino Falcke
Prof Heino Falcke, while doing PhD in 1993, had an idea for the project. He was able to realize that radio emission generated by the black hole will be powerful enough to be detected by the radio telescopes on Earth.
Prof Falcke, in Radboud University in the Netherlands, proposing the experiment, says “What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System”.
It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. And it is one of the heaviest black holes that we think exists. It is an absolute monster, the heavyweight champion of black holes in the Universe.
GOSSIPS: IF YOU FALL INTO A BLACK HOLE
As we all know that nothing is faster than the speed of light and as per the black hole theory, even the light cannot escape from it. So basically, it is a dark focused 3-D circle pulling everything inside itself with an immense force.
The closer you are to the black hole the faster and faster gravitational force of the hole pulls you, due to which your body will be stretched apart. Also, there is a term that physics uses knows as event horizon which is the border of the hole. Scientists believe that it is impossible to return from that point because there is no escape beyond it. Before that point, you can still find a way to escape. But, after that point, not a chance. So, it’s better to stay away from the event horizon.
